YouTube Subtitles to Anki: A Practical Guide

See what NoaLingua exports and why saved words and sentences usually make better Anki cards than blindly turning a whole transcript into hundreds of weak flashcards.

Save words while watching

Click a word in the subtitle and press Save. NoaLingua stores the word with its sentence, translation, source video and exact time when available. That is very different from dumping an entire subtitle file into Anki.

Review before exporting

Use NoaLingua Learn first if you want to clean the deck. Mark obvious words as known, practise the difficult ones and keep only cards that still make sense outside the video moment.

Export for Anki

The manual verifies several export paths: CSV for Anki, full JSON, spreadsheet CSV and an Anki package with pictures and sentence audio where available. Export remains available on the free plan.

Avoid transcript dumping

A whole YouTube transcript is usually bad flashcard material. Better cards come from moments where you had a real question: Why does this word mean that here? Which form is this? Could I understand this line tomorrow?

Build a smaller, better Anki deck

Save words from real video moments, then export the cards that deserve to travel.
