The same word card opens from video subtitles, web selections, the bilingual Reader and the PDF Viewer. It can combine an offline word dictionary, morphology data, Wiktionary/Kaikki definitions, IPA and real bilingual examples, then save the result with its source context.

How it works

Meaning in this sentence

NoaLingua uses the sentence translation, candidate word meanings, part of speech and nearby words to choose a contextual sense. When evidence is not strong enough, the contextual line is omitted instead of invented.

How it works

Full forms, not only a translation

For supported language data, a clicked inflected form can lead to its lemma, tense, person, gender or case and a fuller conjugation or declension table. The table opens near the form that was actually used.

How it works

Offline first, network second

Downloaded UniMorph, Wiktionary/Kaikki, FreeDict/WikDict and Tatoeba data are consulted before optional online fallbacks. Network grammar lookups send one word, never the whole subtitle sentence.

How it works

One popup across all content

A German verb on YouTube, a French noun in a PDF and a Spanish phrase selected on a website use the same card and the same Save action. That consistency is what lets vocabulary from different media return in one review deck.

Questions answered

Frequently asked questions

Does grammar coverage work equally for every language?

No. Dictionary, morphology, IPA and example coverage varies by language and installed package. The app shows what is missing rather than promising identical depth everywhere.

Does the contextual meaning use cloud AI?

The core card combines dictionary, grammar and sentence evidence. A separate optional AI explanation panel uses Chrome on-device AI when available; it is not required for basic lookup.

Can I save a whole phrase?

Yes. You can drag across subtitle words, save sentences, and optionally keep recognized fixed expressions as their own cards.
